How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Green on Jim Carrey still shines with Glory:
It has been twenty-five years since Jim Carrey put on the green with anger, laughs and humor in Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas. A film based on the Dr. Seuss book that became a holiday sensation, and I saw it back in 2000, and I just revisited it for its anniversary release. The Grinch with a heart two sizes too small created empathy in my experience of revisiting this classic. That is because the thought of others is what matters more than presents and gifts in the world of Who-ville. The dynamic of Grinch and his friendship with Cindy Lou Who (played by Taylor Momsen), is what brings the heart of new beginnings in the spirit of Christmas miracles. Carrey’s performance is a revelation of overcoming hatred, but also learning to love again. The Green comes with realizations that still inspire twenty-five years later.
Special Moments that are Unforgettable:
A lot of what came back to me was the backstory as to why Grinch despises Christmas so much. That comes with many moments of him talking to himself in his layer, and also doing repeated and silly experiments. Despite the ugliness of uninviting character, the many creative moments of Carrey’s performance creates a reminder to where there is laughter and also moments to learn to accept. One of the other moments that stood out the most to me, was when Grinch realizes his heart grows bigger than usual. The reason why that stands out to me is because society can be challenging, but it also paints the portrait that learning to love and accept others goes a long way. How The Grinch Stole Christmas will bring many magical moments for those to revisit or experience for the first time in its re-release. Who-ville is a town of wonders, and mischievous gems of excitement.
Worth the time?
With all the greens of silly fun and Christmas cheer, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is definitely worth the time to revisit in cinemas. It brings in moments of empathy that are still surreal. The film truly paints the portrait of how Carrey himself was the one meant to play the real adaptation of Grinch. Fans can bask in his layer of funny operations, revisit Whoville, and also just feel connected in all the forms of this classic masterpiece over the holiday season. The reminder to give others a chance still thrives emotionally in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
