Maggie Gyllenhaal’s, The Bride! entered 2026 as a gem and feels even more rewarding with its 4K UHD release from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. After watching the film once back in the spring at a press screening, I feel the 4K bonus features provide a needed expansion and exploration of the story and its production. The 4K UHD has bonus features illuminating some of the specific details that went into recreating the 1930’s in stunning detail.  The make-up, and lots of talk with the crew and production designers to go along with it. Jessie Buckley (Beast, Hamnet) plays Ida, “The Bride”, as well as Mary Shelley. Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, American Hustle) plays Frank. They are a compassionate duo of trouble and mayhem, and the bonus features have lots more to dive into.

Special Features:

A bonus feature in the film that grabbed my attention the most is titled The Bride Party. This grabbed my attention because it demonstrates the careful planning and attention to detail that are required to choose  the many camera angles  that make the scene work visually. Many angles in a different setting are purely essential. That is because the aesthetics create moments of conflict for a more insane ride. I adored having an idea of how the sets and particular moments made the film feel more poetic with monster grandeur. The “poetic” side is also seen through creating the characters. There is a segment called Stitching Together THE BRIDE! That is “poetic” art of a monster flick in The Bride! From this, audiences will see how they came to live through the intense make-up to create realism.

Purchase or Pass?

For those who enjoyed this film, it is well worth the time and money. Especially for those who are collectors of the classic Universal Monsters. I am a collector myself and love a lot of anything Frankenstein related. I felt the bonus content added layers at which it will be interesting to look back. It is definitely a purchase that will inspire many fans.. The many features of designs and make up are one-of-a-kind in The Bride!
