There is more Hobbit Life Before the Journey Begins:

From New Line Cinema, Warner Bros, and Fathom Entertainment, The Lord of the Rings trilogy is back in cinemas to celebrate 25-years of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001). I had the opportunity to see the film myself in its re-release. It was an extended cut. Bilbo Baggins is played by Ian Holm (Beautiful Joe, Bless the Child) and Frodo Baggins is played by Elijah Wood (The Good Son, The Ice Storm). Before the journey to destroy the ring begins, the extended cut has more moments of hobbit life. Moments of hobbits enjoying their many meals and social gatherings. Also moments of Bilbo fascinated by writing a novel. The extended cut brings in a deeper emphasis on the life of hobbits. Then there is the grand entrance of Gandalf and he is played by Ian McKellen (Richard III, Gods and Monsters). Once Gandalf comes around for Bilbo and Frodo the life of all will change once the ring is discovered.

Words from Peter Jackson:

Before the movie starts. Audiences will get a pre-recorded introduction from Peter Jackson himself. He talks about how the film had some pressures due how they made all three of them simultaneously. He also goes into detail about how New Line Cinema wanted him to have at least 25 minutes or so of the film complete to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. He goes into detail about how the mixed reception from press fueled the cast and team to get the project and the narrative right. He also elaborates how many fans have come to him mentioning how they are watching the trilogy for the first time in cinemas and not on a small screen. The fan base for the franchise remains to be a fascination for many age groups.

Worth the time?

For those who love this franchise, this is a journey that is meant to be revisited. That is because the foundation of hobbit life carries a path of empathy. The beginning feels more exhilarating to how the fellowship comes together. The Fellowship of the Ring is still vivid and spellbinding in its extended cut. The whole trilogy in the extended versions play through February 5th at many cinemas. Tickets can be purchased at the link below.
