A World of Pure Imagination is Still Vivid:

From Warner Bros. and Fathom Entertainment, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory comes back to cinemas celebrating 55 years. A candy-colored classic in which  a sweet and fantastical world brings life to numerous  enthralling cherishable moments. Gene Wilder (The Producers, Blazing Saddles) is Willy Wonka, and he is the one and only true Wonka. That is because he had the voice, the personality, and the kind-hearted soul to play a role that was unforgettable. His characterizations and magnetism brought many wonders to the film itself. From creating connections with Charlie (Peter Ostrum) and the musical moments defining “pure imagination.”

Fathom Features:

Before the film begins, Leonard Maltin delivers a short introduction about the success of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. He goes into detail talking about how the film started off small with a low box office success. However, in the many years to come, he points out that it built a fan-following. He also talks about how the two remakes were made well but did not capture the same magic as the original. The remakes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and Wonka (2023) were fronted by Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Caribbean) and Timothee Chalamet (Dune, Marty Supreme) respectively. Despite the success, Maltin establishes that the 1971 version is the true adaptation with the realism of magic.

Worth the Time?

With a brief history introduction, and the full-film in the highest quality, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is still wondrous on the big screen. I had fun with many of the moments with the Ooompa Loompas, and the crazy mishaps of the chocolate factory. The quirky moments of the many boisterous characters is still what makes the film a classic today. The film plays again for a set amount of showtimes on Wednesday, August 5th.
