The Odyssey, The Only true IMAX Screen in Illinois is Cinemark Seven Bridges & IMAX:

The Odyssey continues to sell out in IMAX screens around the world. The ones that are equipped to play 70mm in the IMAX format. That is because Christopher Nolan (Memento, Inception) shot the entire film using 70mm IMAX stock for the massive project.. It is one of the very first films to be shot entirely in this projection. I had the pleasure of experiencing this masterpiece at the Cinemark Seven Bridges IMAX in Woodridge, Illinois. It is the only screen in the Chicagoland area that can play films in 70mm. The screen is five stories high, and every inch of the screen is filled up with the film. This created every moment of The Odyssey to feel like I was in a world where Zeus’s law spoke on a cinematic level. 

The Voyage Feels Deeper:

There are many moments of peril and action. The most compelling moments though, were the ones where Odysseus is out on the sea. Odysseus is played by Matt Damon (The Martian, Oppenheimer). The moments of the sea turning and crossing into uncharted territory made the IMAX experience feel like the audiences were on the ship with Odysseus and his crew. There was that aspect of depth where the sound and the picture quality felt immersive. The direction of Christopher Nolan is realism that blows audiences minds forever. 

Audiences Feel the Swordplay:

With the journeys of conflict, kingsmanship, and power, audiences feel the intensity with the surround sound in 70mm IMAX. In the moments of the sword fighting, I felt the swords hit each other. I felt the sound. The moments of conflict of Telemachus were spellbinding. Telemachus is played by Tom Holland (Uncharted, Spider-Man: Brand New Day). His rage boils the IMAX screen. The moments of conflict take over the entire IMAX screen. I did not want The Odyssey to end.

Worth the time?

The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX at Cinemark IMAX & Seven Bridges in Woodridge, Illinois is very well worth the time and money. Before the movie starts, audiences get an introduction from an usher explaining how the 70mm projection works. They even get a first few minute preview of Dune: Part III. It is set to open in cinemas and IMAX formats December 18th. The Odyssey sells out frequently in the IMAX format of its locations that play it in 70mm. It is set to play at these IMAX locations throughout September 30th. There is the chance of it getting extended again though. To secure tickets to The Odyssey in 70mm.
