The Passion of the Christ, The Sacrifice Still Soars

In 2004, Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Apocalypto) directed The Passion of the Christ. The film grossed over 600 million worldwide in its theatrical run. The film also had an emotional impact due to its graphic violence. Jim Caviezel (The Thin Red Line, Frequency) plays Jesus. Gibson’s  film captures the final twelve hours of Jesus Christ in Nazareth. All of which contains the whippings, walking the cross, and the crucifixion. A spellbinding and emotional journey in which Caviezel sacrificed a lot for. Audiences can revisit the moments of this cinematic, yet emotional journey with Fathom Entertainment. They also get a look at the next project which continues after The Passion of the Christ.

Fathom Features:

Before the show, Gibson discusses his process in creating the scenery of The Passion of the Christ. He also goes into why there was a gap before his new film, The Passion of The Christ: Resurrection. He explains that capturing realism and the holy aspects of the bible are what he has been studying for years. There are a lot more words of context from Mel himself before revisiting The Passion of the Christ.  Gibson talks about how he spent his production company Icon productions overseeing the creation and the locations for the project. He also talks about how the intensity of the film was to illustrate sacrifice. The element of “sacrifice” is what fed the brutality of Caviezel’s performance.

Worth the time?

Revisiting this emotional film felt important because it refreshed my memory of what it entails. I felt it provided context before The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection. For those who can handle the brutality and realism, the event may be worth the big screen experience once more. Although the event has passed. Fathom Entertainment has more events in the works.
